| STARS Awarded Mini-Grant |
We are delighted to be recipients of a mini-grant from The Collaboration to AdoptUsKids. Writing a grant proposal is a tedious process. Fortunately for us, our efforts have been rewarded. The mini-grant monies will be used to provide assistance to foster and adoptive families through workshops, trainings, literature and much more.
* We appreciate The Collaboration to AdoptUsKids for recognizing the significance of parent support groups like STARS.

| Ice Cream Social |
One perfect August evening, families brought blankets and folding chairs to the Church of the Apostles lawn. Parents and children came together to enjoy scrumptious sundaes and ice cream cones as they connected with other STARS families. We laughed and played until the sun went down.

| Adoption Awareness in Schools |
A report entitled “Adoption in the Schools: A Lot to Learn” was released on October 1, 2006 by the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute and the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.).
This report brings together years of research and experience on issues that affect millions of boys and girls nationwide. It points out that, as adoption becomes increasingly normalized in the United States, many adoptive families are confronting challenges when their children attend school. The report offers several recommendations for how educators can better meet those challenges.

President's Message
Greetings,
November is National Adoption Month. It is a time to celebrate and to raise awareness about the 118,000 children in foster care waiting to find permanent, caring families. The focus of the 2006 campaign is adopting teenage children from the foster care system.
National Adoption Day is celebrated every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Our nation will come together to finalize thousands of adoptions of children from foster care. In courtrooms around the U.S., hundreds of judges, attorneys, adoption agencies, adoption professionals, and child advocates who are dedicated to creating forever families for waiting children will have an active part in the day's events.
